Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to the Reiki Research Foundation the home of Psychodynamic Reiki Counseling

Our aim is to help individuals to discover their own self guidance system in order to self heal and to help people to access available evidence about Reiki and how it can reduce symptoms of ill health.

We were formed in 2002 and are a Community Interest Company therefore all our profits are spent on providing care for those who need it most.

Key research information can be found on the tab to the left, but if you can’t find what you want please feel free to contact us and we will try our best to help you.

We work in the UK but the other half of our team (Brandee and Abo) work in the USA offering Psychodynamic Reiki Counseling at

Reiki is a complementary form of healing. We are all made up of energy and energy flows around our bodies resulting in tiny electrical currents on a cellular level. These run the body and all its functions and these electrical activities in the body produces bioelectricity”. This measurement of energy is now called bioelectromagnetism (BEM) (Gungor, M. 2005)

Energy levels have been measured since as early as 1936 (Burr) and can change daily. When we are unwell this energy level alters and rather than our energy flowing around our bodies with ease, it flows with “dis” ease. A Blockage or disruption in this flow may result in normal physiological functioning of the body becomes impaired, allowing ever-present illness and disease (in the form of pathogens) to take hold over the weakened body (Gao, 1997) if balance is not attained this can result in death

The emerging perception of man in relation to the environment is that of an adaptable — but not infinitely so animal attempting to cope with myriad factors, each of which has potential physiological significance. (Dickey 1984) These factors may be internal such as a genetic predisposition, or external such as chemical substances in the air or water. Clinical disease may be viewed as a manifestation of the cumulative impact of these factors. It develops when the total load exceeds the individual’s adaptive capacity. (Rea et al 1976) The total-load concept applies to any factor that is inherently capable of eliciting an adaptive response. (Rea 1985)

If people are exposed to stress adaptive changes occur within the body. If the stress is maintained, people’s defences may break down resulting in a diagnosable disease or illness. This may be shown by the contraction of a disease, such as an infection (if a viral or bacterial agent are present in the environment), pneumonia (if its respiratory system is already weakened for other reasons) or depression if the conscious mind is “worrying or thinking about negative issues too much”.

If the stress continues or there is another stress applied such as being forced to live in cramped housing, bereavement, separation, new baby etc, these additional stressors lead to whatever disease or illness that is fated to develop (within that area of the body when it is stressed beyond its limit), to manifest into a disease more quickly, than if it experienced only one stressor. Many people therefore are more likely to be physically or mentally ill, where there is a high level of stress.

Psychodynamic Reiki Counselling works by identifying underlying areas of the body that are affected by stress, whether emotional or physical and rebalancing the energy flow back to the correct level. In additon where there are disruptions in the energy flow this can be felt as an anomaly in the clients energy field by the therapist. This then enables the therapist to help the client to open their subconcious in order to identify the stressor which caused this breakdown in correct flow in the first place. These two approaches when used together increase the effectivness over and above when they are used in isolation of each other

Reiki is a therapeutic touch modality which works by using universal energy to open the blocked barriers to the unconscious mind (the seed of repressed emotions) in order for the patient to release these in a controlled way through the conscious self.
