As a result of the above
shortage these people are therefore admitted to acute beds,
psychiatric beds or elderly care even in the 18-65 years age group
which is very depressing for these people and will certainly not
help their condition. This means that their carers often can not
take a break until their own health sufferers forcing them to use
the currently available services and then they feel guilty because
their loved ones are obviously very unhappy with the situation.
There is a huge emotional and financial cost impact to both the
users and providers of these current totally inadequate
services. |

Provision of Respite Care 18 - 65 years in Kent During the last 4 years Kim and myself have been doing voluntary work with people with Chronic Incurable Illnesses. We have seen for ourselves just what a devastating impact the illness has on families when there loved ones need constant care. We discovered that when carers need a break there is nowhere in Kent for their loved ones to go to be cared for other than 13 beds (one at Buckland Hospital Dover and 12 at Gravesend Hospital on M3) with a total of 143,000 people in need of respite care this equates to over 11,000 people per bed! This highlights the shocking lack of services available for these people. |
