Working With Children
Juliet has been working with children who have emotional and behaviour problems since 2004. We have discovered that Reiki works very well with this group of children and due to the increase in the vibrational energies which are now available, children do not always need "hands on" treatments. They can benefit from therapists interacting socially with them, but if they do want to work on a more formal level, there is an increase in the clearing of past traumas.
Children in Care
Children in care are very often placed with foster parents who have received no formal training as to how to deal with these disturbed children and then very little support when problems arise.
There has been a move by councils to use foster placements rather than residential children’s homes due to the spiralling costs involved. Whether placed in a foster home or children’s home the Reiki Research Foundation C.I.C. believes that abused and or neglected children should have the right to therapies which help them to heal their past traumas and therefore help them to become less emotionally and behaviourally disturbed.
Many homes are just a "holding tank" until the child is able to leave care at 16 years old. How many of us would expect our own children to live independently at 16?
Inadequate provision for their needs often results in long term problems such as mental illness, alcoholism, drugs, crime, prison and an associated poor quality of life. Not acting to help these children in childhood often sentences them to continue to suffer into their adult life.
Due to lack of therapies to help them, numerous children are shoved from placement to placement, many having as many as 14 by the age of 15 years, some over 5 in a year. Children who already feel unloved and isolated from their families have their feelings compounded because they have not received the help they need. There can be up to a years wait for counselling services due to inadequate funding.
We have had parents who have approached us themselves because their children are not received the therapies that they need, even 18 months after abuse!
Can you imagine how those children and their families are feeling?
Children and Families at Risk
There are 80 referrals to the child protection team in Medway Kent each week. Many of these families are the second or third generation of sexual or physical abuse, alcoholism, drug abuse, depression or crime. Many families feel judged by those around them but they really are doing the best that they can in the circumstances.
The Reiki Research Foundation C.I.C. is working with families to help them to address their own personal problems which are affecting their children. We rely on donations in order for our voluntary work to continue.
Helping these families now can prevent another generation of children being born into suffering.
